View source for AI SEO Services That Move Revenue, Not Vanity Metrics

This is the pattern search followed, and there is no obvious reason for it to play out differently here. The advantage of early movement is not that the channel is large yet, it is that the positions are cheap.

One argument tends to close the internal debate faster than any of the above. The audit produces a prompt set, and the prompt set is reusable by anyone you hire afterwards. It converts a vague brief into a specific one, which improves every proposal you receive and lets you compare suppliers on the same evidence rather than on the confidence of their pitch.

A reasonable definition: after two quarters, no increase in mentions on buying intent prompts, no improvement in the accuracy of how you are described, and no new citations from the sources your category's answers are built on. If all three are flat, the work is not landing.

Ask What They Will Not Do Good practitioners have a list. They will not guarantee a position in an answer, because nobody controls that. They will not fabricate reviews or seed forum threads under false identities, because it is detectable, damaging and increasingly enforced against.

Ahrefs measured the overlap in July 2025 across 15,000 long-tail prompts and four assistants, finding roughly 80 percent of cited pages did not rank for the original query at all. Ranking gets a page considered. It does not reserve a seat.

None of these are expensive to fix and all of them are total. A blocked crawler does not reduce your visibility, it eliminates it, and every day the block stands is a day of answers composed without you in them.

Absence is not disqualifying on its own, since their category is crowded and they may serve a niche. But they should have an interesting answer, and the answer should not be defensive. A practitioner who has run this test on themselves will have thought about it and will tell you what they found.

The complication is that AI systems use several distinct agents for different purposes. One may crawl for training corpora, another may fetch pages live when composing an answer, and a search provider's traditional crawler may feed both search results and an AI summary.

It is also worth doing while your category is boring. An audit run during a period of stability produces a clean baseline. One run in the middle of a competitor's campaign or immediately after a site migration measures the disruption rather than the position, and you will not know which you have unless you took the earlier reading.

The Argument Against Waiting The usual counterargument is that assistant traffic is still small in most categories, which is often true. But the audit is not primarily about capturing that traffic. It is about finding out whether you are mechanically invisible, whether your identity is coherent, and which third party pages your category's answers are built from.

Prioritise by your own citation data rather than by prestige. A trade directory nobody has heard of that appears in half your category's answers is worth more attention than a well known publication that never gets cited. trusted answer engine optimization agency

One final practical check costs nothing. Ask for a client reference in a category structurally similar to yours rather than a famous name, and when you speak to them ask what the agency got wrong rather than what went well. References are chosen to be positive, so the useful information is in how candidly they describe the difficult parts.

Getting Into the Roundups Where a roundup already exists and omits you, most publishers will consider an addition if you make it easy. Send the specifics they need, in the format their existing entries use, without a pitch attached.

The Baseline Is Worth More the Earlier You Take It A baseline taken today lets you attribute change later. Without one, when something moves you will be reduced to guessing whether it was the assistants, a search update, a competitor's campaign, seasonality or your own site changes.

The same errors recur across companies of every size, and most of them are not technical. They are misjudgements about where the work lives, made early, and expensive to unwind because the budget has usually been spent by the time anyone notices.

This is also why review volume and recency show up so consistently in what gets cited. A platform with forty recent accounts of working with you is more informative than your own page saying customers love you, and it is treated accordingly.

What robots.txt Controls It is a request, honoured by mainstream crawlers, that certain user agents avoid certain paths. It has no enforcement behind it and it does not secure anything, but the major providers respect it.

One final question is worth reserving for the end of the meeting. Ask what they think you should stop doing. An agency with a real diagnosis always has an answer, and an agency that only wants to add work to your existing spend usually does not. Being absent or wrong on those explains far more absences than anything on a brand's own site, and correcting a listing costs an afternoon.
